(President: Hiroyoshi Kobayashi, hereafter referred to as “TDC Soft”) conducted a class for the third year using the UX Design Starter Kit developed by TDC in the ” Human Interface” class of the Department of Production Systems Engineering at Hakodate National College of Technology (Principal: Megumi Abe, hereafter referred to as “Hakodate National College of Technology”), This was the third year for us to support UX design education.

In this class, students will learn about the characteristics of human cognition and memory and examples of easy-to-use interface design in classroom lectures in the first semester, followed by practical exercises using the UX Design Starter Kit in the second semester. Students will experience the process of UX design by designing, interviewing, evaluating, and designing according to the kit on the theme of an issue they have found in their school life.

Our UX Design Starter Kit is a collection of design thinking worksheets for elementary through university students. The worksheets can be combined according to the theme or what you want to achieve, allowing even those with no design experience to tackle problem solving from the user’s perspective.

We have been providing the UX Design Starter Kit to Hakodate National College of Technology since FY2022 to support students’ learning. Each year, we collect feedback from students on how the kit is being used in the classroom and continuously improve the content of the kit. In FY2024, the third year of the program, we introduced and implemented a new output check sheet and user interview workshop. This will enable students to accurately grasp the potential needs of users and solve problems from a more user-oriented perspective.

The UX Design Starter Kit is a great tool for students to learn how to design products and services from the user’s point of view,” said Professor Shinya Koyama of the Department of Production Systems Engineering at Hakodate National College of Technology.
The UX Design Starter Kit helps students clarify user images and elicit latent needs through in-depth interviews. In particular, the interview method for clarifying users’ needs, which are difficult to verbalize, has been a valuable learning experience for the students. For faculty members as well, it has facilitated class preparation and the progress of exercises, thereby reducing their workload. We hope to continue our collaboration with TDC Soft to build an environment where students can learn and grow more independently.

TDC Soft will continue to support UX design education at Hakodate National College of Technology by providing the UX Design Starter Kit.
