Event Report
Miro, an innovation workspace + AI
The following is a presentation by Wataru Maruyama, Miro Japan, LLC
Miro, a pioneer in collaboration since 2011, continues to evolve. Miro has been evolving and redefining its products to meet the needs of the times.
We hope that you will use Miro as a place to “aggregate,” “visualize,” and “share” your team’s know-how. This is how we can use Miro at this event. How could we use it in this way? We hope that this event will help you to visualize how you can use Miro and how it can be used in your company.
The most innovative companies in the world are also using Miro, with 60 million people around the world and 2 million in Japan. When I look back, I can see that it was very difficult at the time, but it has become very convenient thanks to Miro. I believe that this is innovation, and I believe that we, Miro, can bring about such innovation.
DX Status and Agile Penetration Rate

Hibiki Ikeda, TDC SOFT Inc.
The following is a presentation by Masaharu Ono and Hibiki Ikeda of TDC SOFT Inc.
DX is defined in the “Digital Governance Code 2.0” by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
The DX White Paper 2023 (published by the IPA) shows that although DX efforts by Japanese companies DX initiatives themselves have been progressing, but the results have not yet been fully realized.
DX must be promoted under difficult-to-predict conditions, where needs are highly uncertain and the applicability of technology is not known. Therefore, it is not enough to simply implement the detailed plan that was initially set forth, but it is necessary to respond flexibly and quickly according to the situation. Agile approaches are being sought as a means of realizing DX that responds to such situations.
However, agile has not yet been fully adopted. Specifically, 49% of IT departments and less than 35% of other departments have adopted Agile. In fact, we sometimes hear from our on-site clients that they have concerns about the implementation of Agile.
What is Agile and Scrum?
Why is Agile so difficult? It is because it is a mindset, not just a method.
As explained in Agile, “Don’t just do Agile, be agile.” In order to succeed, a project must follow an Agile mindset.
In this article, we will focus on “Scrum,” the most used framework in Agile. In Scrum, “empiricism” is a very important mindset, and “empiricism” consists of three pillars: transparency, inspection, and application.
① Transparency: Transparently visualize the team’s status and changes
② Inspection: Based on ①, inspect what needs to be done to move toward the goal
③ Application: Apply the results of ② to the team and product
Whether this “empiricism” is present in Scrum is the key to success in Agile Agile is the key to success. We place great importance on making “empiricism” a reality, and feel that Miro is an effective tool for making it happen.
Three Key Success Strategies for Agile
Point 1:
■ Create a shared awareness in product development across the team and stakeholders
A phase called Sprint 0 is established to create a common understanding. Three important elements exist to create a common understanding.
-
Work together to create and share the value we want to provide through our products and the vision of what we want to be as a team.
-
Compose the product backlog with the product goal always in mind
-
Share it with the team and everyone involved to keep everyone on the same page at all times
Point 2:
■Practice Furikake for team situations and turn around effective kaizen cycles
Furikake (retrospective) events. Two important elements exist for effective kaizen.
-
Choose a pretender that fits your team’s situation.
-
Visualize past reflections and realize growth as a team
Point 3:
■ Don’t waste feedback
Sprint review events. A place to get feedback from stakeholders and users on what you have created. There are two main reasons to use Miro to avoid wasting feedback.
-
Multiple people can leave feedback at the same time.
-
Easy conversion from sticky to backlog item
Impressions from companies that have implemented Agile
-
The entire team was able to meet and discuss requirements and policies as needed, and the speed of hypothesis testing was increased.
(Product Owner, Scrum Team, Financial Services Company A) -
The team’s overall goal was visualized and a culture of collaboration was created, which helped to establish an awareness of how to achieve the goal. As a result, I think we were able to deliver a great product.
(Product Owner, Scrum Team, Energy Company B) -
I had no experience with Agile, but I was able to start small with one team and then scale the team.
(Project manager, energy company C)
Questions and answers from participants (excerpts)
Q.What is the biggest problem or issue that you have stumbled upon when working with Agile so far?
A.When delivering a product as a team, it tends to be a problem to proceed without a shared understanding. If it is a scrum, it is important to create a common understanding at sprint 0. (TDC SOFT Inc.: Ono)
Q.Other than Miro, similar online whiteboards exist. Why did you choose Miro from among them?
A.The degree of freedom was important to us. We did not want to be limited in our expression by the limitations of the tool. In that respect, Miro is intuitive to use and express, and has many functions, and even now, when I use it, I sometimes notice useful functions. (TDC SOFT Inc.: Ono)
Q. How do you manage past Miro boards? What did we talk about that last year? How do you search for them?
A. We have created a board that serves as a site map with a list of each board, and we leave them there as an archive. Older boards are also archived by year. The search function is also available, so it is possible to search using that function. (TDC SOFT Inc.: Ikeda)
Q. Are there any points you are aware of when working with clients on Agile? I would like to know how you got your clients involved in Agile.
A. I try to be aware of how much the client understands the essence of Agile. Depending on their level of understanding, I try to explain the necessity of using Agile, and try to match the vision of the team and the organization, and the goals of the product delivery. (TDC SOFT Inc.: Ono)
